Is this “fair” matchmaking?
The first few days of a new League of Legends season are always chaotic, with players who ignored all the changes during the preseason flooding the queues, MMR resets, wonky LP gains and losses, and failed initiatives like positional ranks. With all this craziness, a lot of players wonder if they would be better off leaving ranked untouched until the ladder settles and Riot fixes whatever calamity has developed. With Season 10 now slated to begin on January 10 nice little bit of poetry there Riot , those questions are returning.
Players who were Plat and above will have their ranks reset to Plat IV, which is the highest rank anyone can be placed at to start the new season. This means that the first few weeks of Season 10 will have a lot of matches with players of varying reset MMRs who might have been much higher or lower than the other players in the game.

Riot Games has finally responded to the League of Legends community’s ongoing complaints about “malicious players” ruining ranked and solo queue games. For a long time, the League community has felt that Riot failed to respond to claims that their MOBA’s playerbase has become increasingly toxic, to the point where gameplay has been significantly affected.
Former League of Legends pro Joedat “Voyboy” Esfahani decided to take it upon himself to become a spokesperson for the community on the issue. Voyboy ranted about Riot’s ongoing disregard over toxic players, noting that this large group of players who aren’t just aggressive and rude, but fail to cooperate with their team, practice stream sniping, and purposely feed during competitive matches when things aren’t going their way.
Basically, they are getting in the way of their teammates’ success. Voyboy and others say that this has become an even more noticeable problem in Season 9 and Season I know this for a fact. According to Voyboy, this toxic behavior is being experienced on a large scale from the upper tiers of Challenger down to normal draft games. The video was met with support from the League of Legends community, who collectively agreed that they don’t feel as good when they get on League of Legends to play because of the problems Voyboy mentioned.
But even worse than the toxic players is Riot’s lack of response. In , Voyboy said that he went to Riot Games headquarters to discuss this problem, warning them that they needed to take action. But in , it just got worse.

Let me start with the fact nothing in this game matter balance wise if the matchmaking will stay like this, when I heard about the new patch huge challenges I was worried than looking forward for it knowing how unfair the matchmaking will be that mainly and most often one side of the team will abuse the meta and OP champion than the other due to the matchmaking.
I’m very puzzled over the fact diamond players can not Que with gold players, yet!

For many people—even many gamers—”toxicity” and League of Legends go hand-in-hand. The game has a longstanding reputation for harboring a noxious player-base that continues to spew hateful epithets at one another despite developer Riot’s best intentions to make them stop. The truth is a bit more complicated. By design, League of Legends is a game that produces conflict.
I don’t mean the in-game conflict of wizards and demons killing each other, but everything that happens around and inside that fictional space. At every step along the way of a given game of League , the people playing it encounter innumerable scenarios that give rise to tense moments between one another. Sensitive and tactful players can often massage these out of existence. But tension can just as easily escalate into full-on fights. These spats culminate in much of the toxic behavior League is known for.

Sunday, 3 September The requirements of good matchmaking. Matchmaking is a highly important part of most modern multiplayer games. Build it badly and the user might be stomped by players way too good for them, get a really laggy connection or wait forever to get into a match. It’s also a difficult topic to analyse and test before launch because there are so many unpredictable factors.

The Heroes of the Storm subreddit periodically complains about all sorts of issues related to matchmaking or the game client, fundamental systems that run Heroes of the Storm. The issues Balance issues The Heroes of the Storm subreddit periodically complains heavily about the state of balance in the game. Complicating this desire for metagame diversity is a desire for skill-testing gameplay that is fun and engaging.
To cite a Magic: The Gathering example, back in late and early , there existed an overwhelmingly powerful deck named Caw-Blade Squadron Hawk. This deck was so good that all other strategies ceased to be functional, with attempts to counter Caw-Blade being met by adaptations from the Caw-Blade players. However, this Caw-Blade deck was also one of the most skill-testing and rewarding decks to play — strong players could easily differentiate themselves in the mirror match through their judgment.
Despite any individual game being fun and engaging to play though, the lack of strategic diversity was too much and several important cards out of the deck were banned, removing the strategy from the metagame. An ideal metagame captures both, but balancing a game to reach both is difficult. By contrast, heroes like Tracer and Genji are very evidently skill-testing, as their win rate climbs significantly with higher player skill.
Keeping this tension in mind is important when discussing balance changes, as any balance change should ideally serve both functions, and if not, should be cognizant of the other. OP heroes Earlier this year, Maiev and Fenix dominated Hero League while significantly impacting HGC, causing massive community outcry not just about the state of those two heroes but also about every other issue.
While Blizzard was unusually slow to seriously nerf both of these heroes, the community deserves its own fair share of the blame.
